Appropriate technology refers to both a design process, and the resulting technologies, that aim to minimize the cost and impact of its creation, operation, maintenance, and eventual destruction/disposal. This demands careful consideration of many aspects of the context in which it is implemented, including social, political, environmental, and economic conditions, and locally available materials and energy sources.
