Hardcore Henry is a Russian action film notable for being shot entirely from the first-person perspective.

A man wakes up in a Moscow laboratory (not strictly true, it's up in the air) to learn that he's been brought back from the dead as a half-human, half-robotic hybrid. With no memory of his former life, a woman who claims to be his wife tells him that his name is Henry. Before she can activate his voice, armed thugs storm in and kidnap her…

Then all hell breaks lose.

The film is filmed from a first person perspective, which makes it a little bit dizzying at times. If you can stand that (I just about managed it) then you're in for quite a ride.

The whole film is pretty much a chase scene, with blood and guts splattering everywhere along the way. There's far too much death and destruction for it to be considered a truly transhumanist movie, but the theory behind it and the hybrid human technology is pretty cool. There's also some re-spawning via a technology similar to that seen on Surrogates. I won't spoil that for you, but let's just say there's a rather weird scene featuring it towards the end that will either leave you in stitches, or pulling a face of bemusement.

If I were still 18 years old, I probably say it was amazing entertainment and a really neat idea.

Being a little older now, I'd say pretty interesting concept, but as per usual they've gone with the whole; "Oh look this cool new tech comes out, and someone starts doing bad things with it route".

Overall? Probably about a 5/10 with massive kudos to the director and the enormous stunt team for their effort.
