The non-aggression principle (NAP) is a common theme among many anarchist ideologies, especially anarcho-capitalism. The main idea of the NAP is that one should not harm another outside of self defence, and is often the only "rule" in theoretical anarchist societies. This contrasts with absolute pacifism in that aggressive actions may be taken in self defence, or defence of ones property.
