The Transhuman Party was an international political organisation founded in October 2017 by Hank Pellissier following ongoing disputes with the US Transhumanist Party. Gennady Stolyarov II described it as "a 25-member experimental splinter party". It became defunct in late 2017 due to lack of activity and its domain name and Facebook page were acquired by the US Transhumanist Party.[1]
Formation
Hank explains[2][3] the dispute is over the trademark of 'Transhumanist Party™' which remains owned by Zoltan Istvan, even after he has given up control over the US Party to its new chair Gennady Stolyarov. Zoltanistvan.com clearly states:[4]
Transhumanist Party™ is a registered trademark; all services and products of Transhumanist Party are protected under law
Hank suggests that the trademark could be used re-seize control of the party or for selfish financial gain.
Gennady and the US transhumanist party responded to these accusations with at statement in their FAQ[5] explaining that party is a 'a non-monetary organization' and therefore ill-equipped to defend a trademark against legal challenges. He additionally explains that the US party retains sole custody of the key party infrastructures such as web site and member list and that Hank's concerns are unfounded.
Reconciliation and dissolution
In January 2019, the website of the Transhuman Party carried this message:
The Transhuman Party is in the process of being integrated into the United States Transhumanist Party. Current Transhuman Party members will be offered free membership in the U.S. Transhumanist Party as well as other opportunities for collaboration. Furthermore, it will be possible to continue to use the name “Transhuman Party” along with “Transhumanist Party” to refer to the combined organization.
The U.S. Transhumanist Party, in turn, began carrying copies of articles written by the original members of the Transhuman Party.[6]
The merger completed in late January, 2019, with about half of the members of the Transhuman Party accepting initial offers to become members of the U.S. Tranhumanist Party.[1]
