:Great, thanks. David recommended the site. I like your open, inclusionist culture—you aren't gripped by the absurd deletionism of some Wikipedians, a sharp contrast to the pervasive infighting that comes up there sometimes.

:I've left a few scattered questions laying around (Talk:Manual_of_Style and Talk:Effective_Altruists), and this uploaded file (:File:Planetary_3.jpg) can be deleted as a duplicate of :File:Planetary.jpg. I couldn't get the Widget:Twitter_Follow_Button to work, and I was wondering about templates, but these are just minor questions along the way. Thanks again for your many contributions. I'll let you know if I need any help!

:<blockquote>“ Wikipedia began to look more like Mad Max than anything else. Since no one was in charge, roving gangs formed to impose their edits and bully anyone who got in their way. The rules became so arcane that they could only be used—selectively—to win an "edit war": the winner would always be who knew the minutia of wiki rules and where the hidden dust bins were, not who had made the right edit. The NPOV tag was horribly abused by self-aggrandizing (male) wiki-weenies who scored ego points by imposing their own point of view as transcendentally neutral ... ”</blockquote>

:: Glad to have another experienced Wikipedian and (presumably) transhumanist on board! Whether Wikipedia is dominated by deletionists is an interesting debate in itself. One thing I did note early in the project is that senior Wikipedian David Gerard wields considerable influence on Wikipedia and RationalWiki playing down transhumanism, following a long spell growing to hate the Rationalist community's advocacy on Less Wrong. Still, he plays by the rules and there is a seemingly unending supply of enthusiastic futurists (many Zoltan Istvan supporters) who will try and play-up the notability of transhumanism to transhumanism's potential, rather than to agreed standards of notability. To this end, there had to be a separate transhumanist wiki. I'm currently engaging with a major piece of consultation with Natasha Vita-More which has moved to the mailing list so I suggest you join if you're interested in high level site strategy.

:: On more day-to-day areas, well the Community Portal is meant to be an overview of tasks, I hope it's up to date. As volunteer to the site, what is most important to me is your quantity of additions, improvements and refinements, or your ability to attract further contributors. I want to build H+Pedia so that it's more often in the news, that contributors use this is as a platform for their own research and involvement in the transhumanist community, and that it becomes more broadly known as 'the' wiki for transhumanism, in the way RationalWiki is for the skeptics, Wookipedia is for Star Wars, TV Tropes is for media and specific sites on Wikia are for various TV fandoms. I want transhumanists to check out H+Pedia first before buying into everything that comes out of futurism.com or singularityhub and more often be techno-realists rather than techno-utopians. I want transhumanism to shape the conversation about technology in the public as well as private sphere. I want a lot. Whats with the various ': ' talk page edits? Deku-shrub (talk) 18:27, 24 March 2018 (CDT)

:Simply initializing the Talk page so the average visitor is presented with fewer red links, which can be distracting. Let me know if you prefer something else. Cheers, – Babelfish (talk) 01:28, 25 March 2018 (CDT)

:: But why? If I wanted all red talk pages blue I'd create a bot or something - what does this add? Deku-shrub (talk) 06:37, 25 March 2018 (CDT)

::: It's quite simply a matter of aesthetics and personal preference: when I go to the trouble of creating a page, I also tend to initialize the Talk page before it feels like the page is &#8220;complete.&#8221; It's no more consequential than dotting one's i&#8217;s or crossing one's t&#8217;s. Redlinks can be a distraction and an eyesore, so I try to minimize their frequency—distraction being the very rationale for their appearance. If I knew how to do it myself, and with no objections, I'd create a bot to do the job automatically. Let me know if you prefer an alternative. Cheers, – Babelfish (talk) 11:57, 25 March 2018 (CDT)

:::: I don't agree. Blue links which go no where are distracting. What I do when I complete a major page is add comments about how I created the page, e.g. what sources and to what end, suggest areas for integration and wider development and any other links that might need integrating in the future. Deku-shrub (talk) 13:07, 25 March 2018 (CDT)

::::: I agree that's optimal—I'll start doing it that way going forward. Babelfish (talk) 13:17, 25 March 2018 (CDT)
