Introduction

This whole project assumes that we can successfully combine biological and synthetic systems into an integreted whole. This can be trickier that it might seem.

An understanding of intercellular matrix materials and properties is needed, so that suitable synthetic materials can be selected to interface with them.

Required

Natural organs are surrounded by a membrane

Organ modules need to have a physical interface between the biological surface of the organ and the synthetic capsule that protects it.

What types of bio/synthetic contacts will be involved? how many different ones? What functional properties will be needed?

What Exists Now?

We know of several materials that are compatible with biological tissues.

What's Next?

We need to characterise the different materials available in terms of how they are tolerated by various tissues or biological materials, and how they bond to substances such as collagen, hyaluronic acid, etc.

Brainstorming

Speculations, suggestions, criticisms, etc.
