Dune is a 1984 science fiction/fantasy film directed by David Lynch.

The movie is based on the novel of the same name by Frank Herbert.

Plot

Dune is the story of a territorial war over a spice called "melange" that is found on only 1 planet; Arrakis (nicknamed "Dune").

Transhumanist Elements

"Melange" or "Spice" is the key element relating to transhumanism. Spice is able to grant people greater longevity, more intelligence as if it were in fact a nootropic, and it can also grant telekinetic abilities.

Future

Dune would later be adapted into a 3-part TV mini-series called Frank Herbert's Dune that was released in 2000. Frank Herbert's Dune was then followed by another TV mini-series titled Frank Herbert's Children of Dune.

In 2016, it was announced that Legendary Entertainment had acquired the rights to Dune for both Film and TV series. "Legendary and the Frank Herbert estate have reached an agreement which includes both the film and television motion picture rights to the classic sci-fi novel Dune. The agreement allows Legendary and Universal Pictures to develop film and television projects based on the franchise for a global audience."[1]

In February 2017 it was also announced that Denis Villeneuve, who directed upcoming sequel Blade Runner 2049, has signed on to direct a new adaptation of Dune, [2]
