Erik P. Hoel is an American neuroscientist and writer. He studies consciousness and emergent phenomena as a research assistant professor at Columbia University.
Erik holds a Ph.D from University of Wisconsin–Madison and a Bachelors Degree from Hampshire College. His Ph.D. work was completed under the guidance of Giulio Tononi, working on the Integrated Information Theory of consciousness. His Ph.D. research was funded by DARPA and the John Templeton Foundation.
Erik was formerly a Visiting Scholar at the Institute for Advanced Study. He is co-founder of the non-profit organization YHouse, based in New York City. Erik was featured in the Forbes 30 Under 30 (2018).
