The potential for supplements in regards to longevity is currently in a period of relative infancy. Many supplements are on the market ranging from those that may help prevent inflammation, protect against certain degenerative aspects of aging (such as neurological, macular, etc). Other supplements are suggested to slow aging, or boost levels of certain chemicals in the body to promote a regenerative effect.
There is a wide and varied number of supplements suggested that may provide the consumer certain benefits. Some of these include:
- Vitmanin D - Research suggests that there may be links to low levels of vitamin D, and diseases such as Cancer and Heart Disease. It may also improve the functioning of the immune system, and lower levels may perhaps even increase risk for mortality.
- Turmeric/Curcumin - Turmeric contains the chemical curcumin. Curcumin and other chemicals in turmeric might decrease swelling (inflammation). Because of this, turmeric might be beneficial for treating conditions that involve inflammation. Turmeric/Curcumin can be bought as a plant, spice, tea or in pill form.
